World Cup and Domestic Violence
Statistics show that reporting of domestic violence incidents increases when there are major football tournaments taking place. During the last World Cup in 2006, there was a 30 per cent rise on the days England played.
The majority of men think that violence against women is never ok; but there are some that think domestic violence is sometimes justified. These men may use the ‘stress’ or ‘emotion’ of a football match, or perhaps the fact that they have consumed alcohol as an excuse for their abusive behaviour.
Domestic violence is a choice. There are no excuses.
