Work with Children and Young People
Work in Primary Schools
As early as 2001, NDVF identified the importance of early intervention and awareness raising work in schools and since 2002 has delivered workshops, projects and presentations to thousands of pupils, teachers and support staff in schools across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. NDVF has experience of working with schools that reflect the demographic diversity of the City and the County.
The G.R.E.A.T Project (Good Relationships are Equal And Trusting) is designed to enable children in year 5 and 6 to recognise their right to live free from fear and to encourage healthy attitudes to relationships. The GREAT Project enables primary school children to gain knowledge about healthy relationships, to explore what domestic violence is and to know where to go for help and support.
The GREAT Project activities are designed to nurture self-esteem and sense of well-being and provide children with information on a range of appropriate services, resulting in greater access and improved safety. Designed to complement Key Stage 2 Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) objectives The GREAT Project is age appropriate, fun, interactive and has been developed to serve children well now and in their future lives.
Work with Young People
NDVF also work with young people outside of a school setting using interactive and creative methods to raise awareness of domestic violence and to promote healthy relationships. The achievements of the young people to date include; healthy relationship infomercials; a leaflet for young mums; a poster for disabled young people; an iphone app; vox pops; poetry and graffiti boards.
