The Domestic Violence and Repeat Victimisation project was commissioned as part of the Home Office Police Research Group’s (now Policing and Reducing Crime Unit) programme on repeat victimisation.

This study seeks to add to knowledge of how the police are organised internally (i.e. the systems and structures in place) to provide a service dealing specifically with domestic violence incidents.

This resource manual is for use in those areas that are developing a specialist domestic violence (DV) court system as part of the Specialist Domestic Violence Court (SDVC) Programme. It is referred to as a system because, although it has the court processes at its heart, it also refers to early identification of DV incidents particularly policing, health and social care interventions, through to specialised and generic victim support.

This consultation paper sets out proposals for the format that domestic homicide reviews should follow. As part of their statutory duty under section 9(3) of the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004 local bodies will be required to have regard to the guidance when establishing reviews.

This CPS guidance looks at the best practice for working with intimidated witnesses including those experiencing domestic violence.

'In accordance with section 170(9) of the Criminal Justice Act 2003, the Sentencing Guidelines Council issues this guideline as a definitive guideline. By virtue of section 172 of the Act, every court must have regard to a relevant guideline. This guideline applies to offences sentenced on or after 18 December 2006.'

This manual is designed for use by the police,Witness Care Units (WCUs), the Crown Prosecution Service and voluntary support organisations to help bring more cases to justice and improve confidence in the criminal justice system. It outlines strategies for effectively identifying, managing and supporting intimidated witnesses through the criminal justice system.
