Unique Partnership in Nottinghamshire between Police and Women's Aid

Nottinghamshire WOMEN’S Aid IDVA’s (Independent domestic violence advocates) are to work from Ollerton Police Station in a unique project being piloted across Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood.

The IDVA’s, part of Nottinghamshire Women's Aid, have been vetted and given access to police systems to further improve the service to domestic violence victims.

The pilot scheme will be officially launched on Wednesday 28 May and has been welcomed by Women’s Aid.

The IDVA’s will work alongside members of the Public Protection Unit, also based at Ollerton Police Station. The unit was created in January and was the first divisional Public Protection Unit to be established within Nottinghamshire Police.

The Public Protection Unit on Bassetlaw, Newark & Sherwood Division consists of three Sergeants and 11 operational staff (all Detective Constables and Police Constables) who are responsible for dealing with all sexual offence and domestic violence prisoners and victims. Officers in the unit are fully trained Sexual Offence Liaison Officers, available seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
