Nottinghamshire Police and risk assessment in domestic abuse incidents
In an interview with the Evening Post Notts Police cite the new methods of working around domestic abuse as a contributing factor in the reduction of homicides in Notts by 40%.
Homicides have fallen by almost 40% in Notts over the past year. The article states that 'As well as restructuring the investigation of homicides, Notts police have adopted new methods of not only reacting to murders, but in trying to prevent them.
Mr Holmes said: "All officers who visit a domestic violence incident now carry out risk assessments and fill in forms asking for specific information. "These forms are then handed on to specialist officers who will have a much fuller picture of what has taken place."
"Domestic violence can quickly escalate in its severity and lives can be put at risk, so it is essential that if our unit is required to get involved detectives need to have the most complete record of previous incidents.'
