Newark Women’s Aid provides the following services:

Refuge:  The Refuge provides temporary secure accommodation with associated support services and information to women, with or without children, who have experienced any form of physical, sexual, emotional, psychological or economic abuse.

We aim to support, inform and empower women and children to enable them to resolve the difficulties they are facing and determine their future.   Support staff   are available to offer emotional support, information, advocacy and assistance with claiming welfare benefits, legal options, education, health care, housing and move-on.  Telephone support line for women and outside agencies.  Aftercare and resettlement support is available to women and children when they leave the Refuge.

Outreach Service:  provides support, advocacy and information to women who live in the Newark & Sherwood area, who are experiencing, or have left an abusive partner and wish to remain in their own home.   Support is offered on a one-to-one basis in a safe venue, alternatively telephone support is also available.  The service ensures women can access practical and emotional support to talk in confidence to a specialist domestic abuse worker about their fears and concerns, and address any related issues including: safety planning, relationship breakdown, housing options, welfare benefits, legal options, budgeting, further education, training, employment and access to other agencies.   Women who choose to leave their abusive partner will be assisted to access appropriate accommodation.

Children & Young People’s Outreach Service:  provides support to children and young people living in the local community who have experienced or are living with domestic abuse.   Our aim is to reduce the impact of children and young people’s experiences of domestic abuse around health, emotional and social well-being, self esteem and education.   One to one support is provided to enable children and young people to work through their experiences and develop strategies for coping with their feelings.   The service also supports the parent/carer to understand and cope with the feelings and behaviour of their children in a positive way.
