Nottingham PCT adopt domestic violence policy
The requirement for all NHS Trusts to have a domestic violence policy is clearly defined within the Governments Strategy for Domestic Violence. (Home Office: 2005).
The Home Office, Department of Health and all major representative organisations for medicine, nursing and midwifery have released position papers regarding domestic violence. These papers urge a comprehensive NHS response to domestic violence. This policy reflects these issues as well as the guidance promoted within these papers. The practice guidance reflects the comprehensive guidance from the Home Office regarding the contribution of the National Health Service and health professionals in the area of domestic violence.
This policy has been written in wide consultation with representatives from the NHS, service partners and service users within Nottinghamshire Domestic Violence Forums and the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships, which include Women’s Aid. It therefore reflects a comprehensive public and agency viewpoint.
This policy supports feedback from service users and service employees, via the Nottinghamshire Domestic Violence Forums and Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships, of which Nottingham PCT’s are partner organisations.
This policy has also been written to meet Nottingham PCTs’ statutory obligations to the South Nottinghamshire and Mansfield & Ashfield Domestic Violence Strategic Partnership Delivery Plans for 2005-2008. (extract from the domestic violence policy).
