New National Phoneline launched on Forced Marriage

Derby-based organization Karma Nirvana is being part-funded by the Government’s Forced Marriage Unit to provide a national helpline for victims of forced marriage and so-called honour violence.  The phoneline – named the Honour Network is staffed by survivors and currently is open from 9.00 in the morning to 9.00 in the evening.

On launching the helpline Vernon Coaker of the Home Office stated that the helpline "is a big step in the fight to raise awareness of the issues of forced marriage and honour-based violence and is crucial in giving victims across the country the confidence to come forward,"

"We recognise that the scale of these issues remains unknown and much of the problem stays underground."

The contact number for the phoneline is:

0800 5999247.
