Multi-Agency Training Programme
NDVF Multi-Agency Training
Nottinghamshire Domestic Violence Forum provides training free of charge to professionals across Nottinghamshire funded by Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Council. The training is delivered mainly by Women's Aid Trainer's or by NDVF workers. The courses currently available for professionals on the multi-agency training programme are:
Domestic Violence Awareness (Modules 1 and 2) covering the following:
- Aspects of domestic violence
- Myths and stereotypes
- Reasons women stay or return to violent relationships
- Impact of domestic violence Links between domestic violence and child abuse
- Good practice guidelines for supporting women and children experiencing domestic violence.
(It should be highlighted that this course is principally about women experiencing domestic violence from male perpetrators. Men experiencing domestic violence from female perpetrators is a different course.)
Challenging Domestic Violence (Modules 3 and 4)
- Promote a greater understanding about why men perpetrate domestic violence
- Links between belief and behaviour Use of children to control the victim
- Risks of confidentiality and collusion
- Appropriate ways to respond to men using domestic violence.
- N.B. delegates must have previously completed DV Awareness.
Domestic Violence in Young People's Intimate Relationships (delivered by Greater London DV Project and NDVF)
- How domestic violence occurs within young people’s intimate relationships;
- Sexual violence and sexual exploitation;
- The media and links to violence;
- Gangs and links to domestic violence;
- Teenage pregnancy;
- Dealing with disclosures;
- Referral pathways and support in Nottinghamshire.
- N.B. delegates must have previously completed DV Awareness.
Domestic Violence & work with Young People
For people who want to be involved in delivering awareness projects about domestic violence and healthy relationship to children and young people in their place of work or as future skills development. The course will:
- Explore a variety of exercises that can be used in awareness work with children and young people;
- Provide further knowledge and resource links to support your work;
- Develop and deliver a short exercise that could be used in work with children and young people.
- N.B. delegates must have previously completed DV Awareness and Challenging DV.
Female Genital Mutilation – Half Day Seminar (delivered by FORWARD)
- Introduce FGM: define what it is and who experiences it;
- Identify indicators of FGM;
- Explore support and signposting options;
- Place FGM into a context of gender related violence.
Forced Marriage: The New Act (delivered by Rights of Women)
For those needing to know more about applications for Forced Marriage Protection Orders. The course will:
- Keep you up to date with the very latest developments in the law;
- Give an essential understanding of the new Forced Marriage Protection Orders.
- N.B. delegates must have previously completed DV Awareness.
Removing the Barriers: domestic violence and securing women’s position in the UK (Rights of Women)
This course will enable participants to support women who have insecure immigration status and are experiencing domestic violence; the course offers a practical overview of immigration and procedure, including:
- EEA Nationals, their partners and rights on relationship breakdown;
- Coming to the UK to join a spouse, civil partner or partner;
- Supporting a woman to make an application for indefinite leave to remain under the domestic violence rule;
- Challenging ‘no recourse to public funds.’
- N.B. delegates must have previously completed DV Awareness.
Introduction to the Impact of Rape and Sexual Abuse (developed and delivered by Nottingham Rape Crisis)
Aimed at all professional working with men, women, children or families who may be affected by the impact of rape or sexual assault; the course will:
- Raise awareness of the impact of rape and sexual assault;
- To achieve a greater understanding of the law and legal implications for the survivor and professional;
- To increase confidence and knowledge base.
- N.B. delegates must have previously completed DV Awareness.
Sexual Violence: From Court to Report (Rights of Women)
- Increase your ability to support survivors of sexual violence;
- Explore the criminal justice system’s response to sexual violence;
- Increase awareness of the support available for survivors;
- Essential grounding in the Sexual Offences Act 2003 and relevant case law.
