Mansfield One Stop Shop

Mansfield & Ashfield Women’s Aid has been successful in raising funds to open a ‘one stop’ Domestic Abuse project based in the centre of Mansfield and which is easily accessed from both the bus and train stations.

To be known as Mansfield & Ashfield Safety Centre (MASC) it is planned to be open in January 2006 after alterations to the building have been completed to provide disabled access and facilities for children and young people.  There will also be a training room which will be available for hire.

In addition to Specialist Domestic Abuse Support Workers, the centre will be Out Reached by the Homeless team from both areas, the Police D.A Unit, the Crime Reduction Team, Health Visitor, DHS and Specialist DA Children and Young People’s Workers and a solicitor will be available either on or adjacent to the premises.

Domestic Abuse is the biggest cause of Homelessness in this area, and it is hoped that by making the home of the victim safe, and providing legal protection in the form of injunctions and/or the use of the Anti Social Behaviour Legislation, this early intervention will increase the options for victims.  If the situation dictates that Refuge is the necessary option, then this can be a planned move rather than an emergency.
