Launch Of Men's Coalition

Men's Coalition partners Men's Coalition partners

One of the core principles of the group is to:

...work to achieve gender equality and support women’s organisations which are tackling discrimination and violence against women.

In terms of domestic violence the group aims to look at:

"Prevention and education

  1.  How do we instigate attitudes and behaviours at an early age?
  2.  How we can reinforce positive behaviour models in schools, in the wider community and in young peoples home life?

Working within existing systems during child to adult transition

  1.  What do we want from current services working with young people in transition from child to adult; particularly in service delivery where young men are already demonstrating behaviours that we know will make them more likely to be violent toward women in the future?
  2.  How do we demonstrate the value of relationships based on equal respect, negotiation and understanding?

  Working with adult male populations

  1.  What can we learn from our work with perpetrators about what is successful in challenging behaviour?
  2.  How do we engage with men who are using abusive behaviour in relationships whereever the opportunity arises (in health care, in counselling, in social environments, in the work place, etc)?
  3.  How do we get men to recognise and address their use of abusive behaviour at the earliest point?
  4.  How can we link in with other services to understand the motivation of men who are violent and delineate some of the assumptions about the drivers and causality?

The key approach to moving forward is not to ask what isn’t working now but “what could work for men”."  Taken from the Men's Coalition website.  See link to access.
