Domestic homicide accounts for approximately 25% of all homicide in London and 35% in England and Wales.  Although this statistic includes all family violence a large proportion of this is violence between intimate partners.  Domestic violence accounts for 17% of recorded crime and on average two women a week are killed by a current or former partner.  In 2003 - 2004 nearly 40% of all female homicide victims were killed by their current or former partner. 5% of male homicide victims were killed by their current or former partner.
