Home Secretary Backs Action Against Domestic Violence
The Home Secretary today called on men everywhere to make a personal pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.
She made her plea to mark the UN International Day for the Eradication of Violence against Women and the start of the White Ribbon Campaign – 16 days of action on the elimination of violence against women. She stated:
“There are few crimes more destructive and hurtful than domestic abuse. It still goes on behind too many front doors and it’s a crime which breaks up families, destroys lives and subjects its victims to violence, fear and terror.
“We have made great progress on the issue, but we recognise that there is still more to do. A key part of that is the need to tackle the root perception amongst some men that violence is a routine and accepted part of life. I wholeheartedly support campaigns which push this issue to the top of the agenda.”
