Aims and Objectives

The NDVF aims to reduce domestic violence by strengthening inter-agency working, raising public awareness and changing attitudes. In recognition of the fact that the overwhelming majority of domestic violence and abuse is experienced by women and children and is perpetrated by men known to them, NDVF will give priority to supporting developments that maximise choices and services available to women and children.  However, NDVF also recognises the existence of women’s abuse of men and abuse in same sex relationships and will support initiatives to address these issues where appropriate.

Objectives

The NDVF’s objectives (‘the objectives’) are to:

1. To ensure that awareness of the problem and prevalence of domestic violence is given a high profile in Nottinghamshire and encourage, facilitate and develop inter-agency initiatives on combating and reducing domestic violence/abuse.

2. To be a central reference point and resource, co-ordinating local and national information and supporting organisations in Nottinghamshire dealing with domestic violence/abuse.

3. To assist in the development of, and encourage good practice in, all areas of work concerning domestic violence/abuse.

4. Provide development services for charitable and non profit making community groups and other agencies working on issues concerned with domestic violence/abuse: including:

  • Affordable training for organisations, particularly under-funded groups
  • Policy development
  • Funding advice
  • Publicity and PR support
